| A European impetus for data-driven work |
| Fragmented and hard-to-connect data continues to limit progress in the water sector. To meet growing demands for digitalisation and data-driven decision-making, secure and interoperable data spaces are essential. WATERVERSE is building the Water Data Management Ecosystem to create a reliable digital space for combining diverse water datasets. This will enable better collaboration, transparency, and innovation across the sector. |

| Climate resilience is becoming increasingly important for the water sector |
| As climate change intensifies, its effects are being felt earlier and more sharply than predicted, especially through extreme weather. The water industry plays a pivotal role in maintaining human health and safety, but is sensitive to such rapid changes because of its slow-moving nature (by design) with long planning horizons and long-lasting infrastructure. Enhancing climate resilience is key to navigating this growing uncertainty, equipping water systems to foresee risks, respond effectively, and bounce back quickly while keeping services running. |

| Water treatment processes are robust but not a complete barrier |
| Water treatment processes using technologies such as activated carbon, ozonisation, UV/HāOā, and membrane filtration are robust, but new organic substances continue to pose a challenge. KWR has been working with several drinking water companies in the Netherlands and The Water Laboratory to study the effectiveness of treatment processes in for removing organic microcontaminants from drinking water sources. |
