NTUA launches Institute for Circular Economy and Sustainability |
 |
The Senate of National Technical University of Athens approved the establishment of the Institute for Circular Economy and Sustainability which will operate under the University’s Center for Research and Innovation. The institute aims to promote research and innovation in the fields of sustainable development and the circular economy, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of innovative solutions for sustainable resource management and infrastructure resilience. |

Parisians contribute to the future of drinking water with Eau de Paris’ participatory budget |
 |
Eau de Paris launched the second edition of its participatory budget allowing its citizens to select 17 projects for the future of drinking water in Paris. In response to this enthusiasm, Eau de Paris is already planning to launch the third edition of the participatory budget in September 2025. This initiative further strengthens citizen governance and the preservation of water. |

Water Research Commission wins IWA’s Best Practice Resource Recovery Award |

Water Research Commission received the award for an outstanding performance in practicing resource recovery from water during the IWA Conference on Resource Recovery for their Water-Efficient Sanitation (WESS) and Non-Sewered Sanitation (NSS) technologies reducing water consumption and recovering resources.

Water Matchmaker: smart tool matching water supply and demand |

In a recently published white paper, KWR shows how the Water Matchmaker can help address the mismatch between water demand and supply in terms of space, time, and quality. The paper describes how the Water Matchmaker contributes to making the planning decisions needed for the future-resilient allocation of water. An inviting guide for drinking water utilities, water authorities, provincial authorities and policy-makers. |

Enhancing coherence of Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem nexus policies |
 |
Researchers from KWR (with affiliation to Utrecht University), the National Technical University of Athens, and Panteion University have developed a framework to assess the coherence of WEFE nexus policies in both its formulation and implementation. The framework has been applied in Greece’s Nestos Basin, showing that focusing on identifying Nexus hotspots helps to effectively manage policy trade-offs and synergies.

AI-trained CCTV in rivers can spot blockages and reduce floods |
 |
Researchers at the University of Bath have shown that their AI-enabled detection software, ‘AI on The River’ trained to accurately detect natural debris, litter or waste blocking trash screens mounted in culverts, can be integrated to existing CCTV systems to provide an early warning of likely flooding.
